Curriculum

The curriculum is the core of what we do and we are definitely settling for nothing but the best. The world-renowned International Baccalaureate (IB) gives students instant credibility at any post-secondary education they choose to pursue, anywhere in the world. The IB, a non-profit organization, dedicated to maintaining top quality standards in education has authorized Raha International School for three of their programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), theMiddle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP). As a result we will be rigorously monitored to ensure we meet strict requirements to maintain our authorisation, including active and ongoing teacher training.

The three programmes offered by the IB address the unique learning needs for each stage of a child’s intellectual and emotional development.

The PYP prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both within and beyond the classroom.

The MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world.

The MYP is a five-year programme, which can be implemented in a partnership between schools, or in several abbreviated (two, three or four year) formats. Students who complete the MYP are well-prepared to undertake the IB Diploma Programme (DP) or Career-related Programme (CP).

Research suggests that there are many benefits to choosing the DP. The programme aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. The DP curriculum is made up six subject groups and the DP core, comprising theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay. Through the DP core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that often involves community service.
